Autism is one of the most common developmental disabilities. It generally becomes apparent in children by the age of three and is characterized by impaired social functioning, thinking, and feeling. The exact causes of this condition are not known, but scientists believe that genetics and environment may play a role. While there is currently no cure for autism, treatment plans (which coordinate therapies and interventions) are available to target the core symptoms of the disorder.
